Legal Update: Trial Online Passport Service

The Ministry of Interior ("MOI") published Notification No. 1980 on Extra Services for Passport Granting on June 17, 2024. With the goal of cutting down on citizen wait times at passport offices, this announcement introduces an experimental online passport service.

You can use the QR code supplied in the notification or https://online.gdi.gov.kh/login to access the online passport service. Although the online service seeks to streamline the application process, it is still necessary for applicants to visit a passport service headquarters or branch in addition to their online application and supporting documents for an interview, photo, thumbprinting, and payment of administrative fees.

Furthermore, a family member or representative may apply on behalf of a citizen who is incapable of physically visiting the passport service office due to a serious illness, old age, or disability by providing supporting documentation and filling out an application form in the MOI-mandated format. In these situations, the Ministry of Interior will send a team to the applicant's address to offer the service at no cost to applicants who live in Phnom Penh.
