Labor Update: Extra Safeguards for Pregnant Female Employees

An Instruction on Special Protection for Pregnant Female Employees was released by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training ("MLVT") on February 7, 2025. The purpose of this training is to enhance the working environment and protect the health of pregnant female employees.

Requirements

  • No discrimination in terms of benefits, wage increases, contract renewals, or employment prospects.
  • The entire salary to which one is entitled during maternity leave must be paid prior to the absence.
  • No contract suspension during the nine months following maternity leave, unless the suspension pertains to a particular division of the company or all employees;
  • Promoting automatic contract renewals for expectant workers or those who give birth within a year; prohibiting firing pregnant workers or those who give birth within a year, unless there is grave misconduct; and
  • The labor inspector must approve any dismissal.
